Insurance Requirements
For Independent Contractors
All Independent Contractors partnering with KLX are responsible for maintaining active and compliant insurance coverage at all times while providing delivery or transportation services. Contractors must provide valid proof of insurance prior to onboarding and may be required to submit updated certificates upon request.
Minimum Insurance Requirements
Personal Cars, SUVs & Minivans
Contractors using personal vehicles must maintain:
- Active automobile liability insurance meeting or exceeding Pennsylvania state minimum requirements
- Coverage for business-use or delivery-use driving where required by the insurance carrier
- Proof that the policy does not exclude courier, delivery, or commercial-use activities
- Continuous insurance coverage with no lapses
Pennsylvania law requires motor vehicle operators to maintain minimum financial responsibility coverage, including bodily injury liability, property damage liability, and medical benefits coverage.
Note: Affordable insurance coverage with better conditions is available and can be provided by KLX partner companies if requested.
Cargo Vans, Sprinter Vans & Box Trucks
Contractors operating commercial vehicles must maintain:
- Active commercial automobile insurance
- Liability coverage appropriate for commercial delivery operations
- Coverage for owned, hired, and non-owned vehicles where applicable
- Physical damage coverage where required by vehicle financing agreements
- Any additional DOT or FMCSA insurance requirements applicable to the contractor’s operation
Commercial-use vehicles involved in delivery operations may require commercial auto policies rather than personal auto coverage.
Recommended Coverage Limits
While minimum state coverage may satisfy legal requirements, KLX strongly recommends higher commercial liability limits consistent with logistics and medical courier industry standards.
- $100,000 bodily injury per person
- $300,000 bodily injury per accident
- $100,000 property damage liability
- $1,000,000 combined single limit (recommended for larger commercial vehicles and contracted freight)
- Cargo coverage where applicable
- General liability coverage where applicable
- Workers’ compensation coverage if the contractor employs drivers or helpers
Many brokers, healthcare clients, and logistics contracts require limits substantially higher than Pennsylvania statutory minimums.
Additional Requirements for Certain Contracts
Some medical, pharmaceutical, laboratory, or government-related delivery contracts may require additional insurance documentation, including:
- Certificate of Insurance (COI)
- Additional Insured endorsements
- Higher liability limits
- Cargo insurance
- Professional liability coverage
- HIPAA compliance documentation
- Workers’ compensation certificates where applicable
Requirements may vary depending on vehicle class, cargo type, operating radius, and client contractual obligations.
Important Insurance Compliance Notice
Independent Contractors are solely responsible for ensuring that their insurance policies properly cover delivery, courier, logistics, or commercial-use activities. Personal automobile policies may deny claims arising from business or delivery operations if proper commercial-use endorsements are not in place.
KLX reserves the right to:
- Verify insurance coverage at any time
- Require updated proof of insurance
- Suspend or terminate contractor eligibility for non-compliance
- Require additional insurance based on client contracts or delivery types
Failure to maintain required insurance coverage may result in immediate suspension of delivery opportunities.
KLX Is Committed To

KLX is committed to maintaining professional, compliant, and legally sound operations across all service areas.
